The Direct Sales Representative is responsible for cultivating account relationships, generating conversation and identifying the need to sell scientific laboratory supplies, equipment, and reagents to environmental, industrial, government, educational, pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences and medical research establishments by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicating with customers by phone, e-mail, and mail to solicit orders.
  • Acting as an independent, self-starter who can work within a small close-knit team environment.
  • Converting leads into customers, and maintaining a level of selling success within an office based environment.
  • Identifying opportunities within existing accounts and working in conjunction with the field sales team.
  • Meeting established company/territory sales and GP dollars goals.
  • Studying data about new products in order to develop sales approach.
  • Compiling and analyzing data on supplies, equipment and reagents preferred by customers.
  • Advising customers of products for given need, based on technical knowledge of product.
  • Quoting prices and credit terms and preparing sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Estimating dates of delivery for customers, based on knowledge of own company’s distribution schedules.
  • Utilizing company CRM system on a daily basis for data entry of customer and sales data.
  • Meeting daily minimum inbound and outbound call volume.
  • Writing business plans and updates as needed.
  • Performing quarterly presentation on territory results and activities.
  • Working regularly with manufacturing representatives.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university
  • 1-2 years of sales experience preferred
  • Proficient use of computer, business software, word processor and other common office equipment
  • Good phone selling skills
  • Must be able to perform work accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, commissions, ratios, discounts, gross profit, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Good human relation skills
  • Positive, can-do attitude with strong customer and employee focus
